we deicide to use the are at the back of 370 building. after testing the cardboard paper human we realized that:

• if we want the human shadow to look sharp and big, there needs to be 1 very pointed light (not diffused) and close to the paper human. at the same time the projected surface need to be far away from the paper human

  

at the beginning we want to paint the paper human black and placed them on the black bike locker frame and ask the audience to explore the shadow scene with lights from their phone. but it’s hard to come upt with a story with this approach and the experience seems to be a bit simple.

Then we noticed this interesting fire hydrant under a pointed light:

the object itself looks interesting and the shadow of it as well. after applying a red gel filter the scene looks quite thriller sci-fi ish. we all think it’s interesting and decide to make up a narrative around this scene.

we decide to make a story:

Aliens have given humans an object, and the way to communicate with them is by modifying its shadow to tell a story. We invite the audience to engage by creating their own story through reshaping the shadow using human cardboard cutouts. And share the story with the aliens.
