My concept is to make a drawing with coffee beans and create some hot coffee smoke like effect. I want to make some dynamic drawing with a group of small items, I thought of candies, clips, paper strips. Eventually I decide to use coffee beans because it’s easier to get and have a consistent color and is easier to make a connection with the coffee cup to tell a story.
Things I learned:
My first attempt is below. The problem is the coffee bean drawing grows from bottom to top doesn’t look like a fog. So that the bean drawing looks irrelevant with the coffee cup. I realized smoke floats upward so I should make the drawing flying up a bit every time to make it looks more like smoke.
And for some production set up difficulties:
For the setup, I laid the coffee beans on a white paper background to guarantee their free movement and clear visibility. I positioned the camera directly above, facing downward. The cup was aligned horizontally with the table, using a small wooden block beneath it to secure the desired angle. After recording, I edited out the wooden block, tripod edges, and any irrelevant items, resulting in a polished and clear final stop-motion animation.
And unfortunately I knocked over the coffee beans bag…took me a long time to clean this up…
