my take: the user understand their own pain point the best. it’s like they have their own torch through what’s important what’s not.
I find many interactive installations without explicit instruction my common curiosity portal. Makes me want to make a guess on how to interact with them; expect a feedback and see what’s going to happen next. If an installation reminds me of previous experiences (say look like an everyday tool or make me feel predictable), I lost interest quickly.
Or if it’s a common everyday thing but malfunctioned into something else, that makes me curious too. I like the balance of predictable and unpredictable: too predictable is boring, too unpredictable is hopeless.
Human beings make me curious too. I like to observe how people handle situations, if their way is creative/interesting/uncommon I start to be curious about how they come up with it and how they function.
